Marie Mackintosh has been appointed vice chancellor for workforce and community engagement at Indiana University Indianapolis. She brings over 15 years of experience leading collaborative initiatives in education, workforce development and systems innovation to the role.
During her tenure, she guided EmployIndy through a post-pandemic transformation, strengthened its financial and operational foundation, and helped deliver more than 3,300 job placements, $5.5 million in wage gains, and engagement with over 700 employers across the region.
She previously held senior roles with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, leading statewide strategies to prepare Indiana’s workforce for over 1 million projected job openings.
In the newly defined role of vice chancellor for workforce and community engagement, Mackintosh will advance the IU Indianapolis mission by driving workforce readiness and enhancing community partnerships. She will lead strategies that align academic programs with employer needs, leveraging the campus’s strengths in education, research and outreach to expand talent pipelines and bolster the workforce that powers the city and state.
The position was created to succeed Amy Conrad Warner, who will retire as vice chancellor for community engagement effective Oct. 31.
Mackintosh will begin her role Dec. 8. Margie Smith-Simmons, senior executive advisor to the chancellor, will oversee the Office of Community Engagement in the interim.
