“The meetings are a great place to see people from units across campus, not just in your school or functional area,” said Dillon Waggoner, associate director of the Business Plus Program in Kelley Career Services and a Staff Council representative. “It’s also a good way to get news and clarification early or ask questions, since leadership from HR and administration are always in attendance.”
Examples of recent agenda items discussed by those leaders include campus construction, native tree planting to replace invasive species, and a Human Resources review of academic advisor workload and salary equity.
“If you’re interested, come as you are and just listen to decide if you might like to get more involved or serve as a representative for your unit,” he said.
Staff Council meetings are not all serious business. The monthly agenda also includes recognition of staff awards, milestones and other achievements. At the December 2025 meeting, several attendees got into the holiday spirit by bringing sweet treats to share.
“Having a strong sense of community amongst staff across campus can make a difference when it comes to morale and maintaining our sense of purpose,” said Angela DeCamp, a Staff Council Executive Committee member at large. “The council is building on ways to make the meetings a place for camaraderie, and staff can help with that effort just by attending.”
IU Indianapolis Staff Council meetings are held from 2 to 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in the Lilly Auditorium at University Library, unless noted otherwise. The 2025-26 schedule is posted on the Staff Council website.
