Events planned for Veterans Day; resources available year-round

By IU Bloomington Today

October 31, 2025

The Indiana University Bloomington campus community is invited to attend an annual Veterans Day flag-raising ceremony from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Sample Gates. This year’s guest speaker is Ivy Tech Bloomington Chancellor Erik Coyne, a retired U.S. Air Force officer. Free doughnuts and coffee will be provided by IU Dining and Hospitality.

A breakfast social will be held following the ceremony at the Center for Veteran and Military Students at Woodlawn Avenue and 11th Street. Registration to attend is open online.

The center will host a webinar for faculty and staff from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 13. Leaders will discuss what the Center for Veteran and Military Students does and the population it serves, as well as opportunities, challenges and the center’s impact on campus.

Support for veterans and military-affiliated students at IU Bloomington extends far beyond Veterans Day.

Over the summer, the campus was recognized for its success in creating a supportive environment for its U.S. military-connected students, earning the Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana designation. The inaugural designation from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs was awarded to postsecondary institutions that demonstrated successful support from application to graduation.
