Call for nominations for IU Institute for Advanced Study faculty director
By Office of the Chancellor
April 20, 2026
The Indiana University Institute for Advanced Study is seeking a new faculty director who will help shape the institute’s activities, impacting the future of interdisciplinary research, scientific discovery, creative activity and intellectual collaboration at Indiana University Bloomington.
The former faculty director, professor Patty Ingham, retired from the role in December, and professor Suzanne Godby Ingalsbe is serving as interim director.
The Institute for Advanced Study will transition from IU Research to the IU Bloomington Office of the Chancellor effective July 1. The move recognizes the institute’s strong history of serving as a hub for IU Bloomington faculty’s interdisciplinary research.
Faculty self-nominations or nominations of IU Bloomington colleagues who demonstrate a strong commitment to collaborative leadership, community building and research excellence are encouraged. Nominees should be full-time, tenured IU Bloomington faculty from any discipline, though preference will be given to colleagues with previous Institute for Advanced Study engagement.
A search committee will review the nominations to identify the most qualified and prepared candidates for this important campus leadership position. The Office of the Chancellor will make the final appointment.
Nominations for the position will be accepted through May 1.
