The Indiana University Board of Trustees approved projects that will improve facilities and infrastructure on all IU campuses and further research capabilities and student opportunities.

Projects include the continuation of the annual Repair and Rehabilitation Plan; renovations for Wright Quad residence hall on the Bloomington campus; and approval of a 20-year lease for a Washington, D.C., building purchased by the IU Foundation earlier this year.

All campuses

The board approved the continuation of the annual Repair and Rehabilitation Plan for all campuses. The plan, which was approved by the Indiana General Assembly in April, includes nearly $42 million for repair and rehabilitation of university facilities and infrastructure on all campuses.

Projects will include repairs or replacement of roofing; windows; elevators; electrical, fire protection, mechanical and plumbing systems; and steam, utilities and electricity distribution systems; as well as classroom and site improvements.

IU Bloomington

Renovation of the Wright Quad Student Plaza and Sport Court will proceed after the board approved the continuation of ongoing upgrades that offer new recreational and social spaces for students.

The updated activity space will include two regulation high school basketball courts, a fitness court, shaded seating structures, and a water fountain and water bottle filler. The social space will include four table tennis tables, shaded seating options, a covered swing and supports for hammocks. The two main areas will be connected by concrete sidewalks.

Washington, D.C.

The board granted permission for IU to enter into a 20-year lease with the Indiana University Foundation for a Washington, D.C., building that will serve as a hub bringing together IU’s ongoing academic programs and business operations in the nation’s capital. The building at 1619 Massachusetts Ave. NW will also include housing for students in IU’s Washington-based programs.

The building is undergoing renovations in anticipation of initial occupancy in January 2026.

The eight-story building was constructed in 1961. It is 59,423 gross square feet above grade and has an 11,038-square-foot underground parking garage. The parcel also contains five surface parking spaces contiguous to the building.
