The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is requesting proposals for the American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant.

The program aims to attract new investigators from Indiana University into cancer research. It supports new pilot studies that will produce preliminary data for the investigator to develop into studies that will compete for external, national funds from both federal and private sources.

The funding is available for new IU investigators who hold the rank of assistant professor, research assistant professor or assistant scientist. Investigators must be within six years of their first independent research or faculty appointment but without an active national competitive research grant.

Faculty from the School of Medicine and its regional campuses, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, School of Optometry, O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, School of Health & Human Sciences, School of Liberal Arts, School of Science, McKinney School of Law, Maurer School of Law and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering are especially encouraged to apply.

Funding of up to $50,000 is available for three pilot projects beginning Jan. 1. Awards are contingent on availability of funds through the renewal process.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold a visa that will allow them to remain in the U.S. long enough to complete the pilot project.

A notification of intent to apply must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 3 to Crystal Baker at cancrfa@iu.edu. Include the applicant’s name, draft title for the proposal and one to two sentences describing the project.

Completed applications are due Oct. 27.
