Katie Walker named vice chancellor for finance and administration at IU Bloomington

Following a national search, Katie Walker was selected to serve as vice chancellor for finance and administration at Indiana University Bloomington.

As a leader on UVA’s finance team, Walker partners with internal and external stakeholders and directs the budget and planning, cost accounting, fixed assets, and business intelligence teams.

She was selected for this role by IU Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Jason Dudich and IU Bloomington Chancellor David A. Reingold. She will report to them jointly; her first day will be Oct. 20.

“I am excited to have Katie join the IU Bloomington team as the vice chancellor for finance and administration,” Dudich said. “This is a critical role for IU Bloomington’s success, and Katie’s background in higher education, especially in financial planning and administration, will be invaluable to the campus.

“Katie’s focus on strategic financial planning, understanding of both administrative and academic structures in public institutions, and an overall drive to make a positive impact make her the ideal person to take on this role.”

At IU Bloomington, Walker will be responsible for the $2 billion budget of the flagship campus. Her responsibilities will include budget planning, financial administration and oversight of auxiliary services, including housing, dining, transit and athletics. She will engage with senior leadership, deans and faculty across the Bloomington campus.

“Katie is a leader in the field of higher education finance,” Reingold said. “As we continue to manage and creatively grow our financial resources, she will be a key thought partner to advance our efforts. I look forward to welcoming Katie and her family to Bloomington, where I am confident she will have a big impact.”

I look forward to bringing those experiences with me as I partner with faculty, staff and students to strengthen IU’s financial and administrative foundations and help ensure the university continues to thrive for generations to come.”

Walker previously served in the budget office at the University of Colorado Boulder and in various roles in UVA’s School of Education and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. in higher education from UVA and wrote her dissertation about responsibility center management budget models in higher education. Additionally, she holds a master’s degree in teaching social studies from UVA and bachelor’s degrees in history and anthropology from Arizona State University.

She received the 2023 Rising Star Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers in recognition of her high potential to succeed as an executive and business officer in higher education. She serves on the association’s Analytics Advisory Group and presents regularly at regional and national conferences on planning and budgeting topics.
