Staff, faculty: Don’t miss out on free ChatGPT Edu access

Indiana University recently announced that staff and faculty on all campuses can request institutional access to ChatGPT Edu, a version of the popular AI tool built specifically for higher education.
Here’s how to claim your free ChatGPT Edu license today:
If you don’t have an account
- To activate your account, submit the ChatGPT Request form.
- Within about 20 minutes, you’ll receive an email invitation from OpenAI to join IU’s ChatGPT Edu workspace.
- Go to the ChatGPT website and, in the top right, select “Log in.”
- Under “Log in or sign up,” enter your IU email address in the “Email address” field, and then select “continue.”
- Under “How do you want to log in?,” select “Indiana University.”
If you’re already using your IU email address for a free account
- To activate your account, submit the ChatGPT Edu request form.
- Within 20 minutes, you’ll receive an email invitation from OpenAI to join IU’s ChatGPT Edu workspace.
- Go to ChatGPT’s site and in the top right, select “log in.”
- In the “Email address” field, enter your IU email address and then select “Continue.”
- Select Indiana University.
- On the IU Login page, enter your IU username and passphrase, and then complete a Two-Step Login (Duo) After authenticating, you will be placed into the IU ChatGPT Edu workspace.
- Once your IU email address is added to the IU workspace, you will see a prompt asking what you’d like to do with your existing data. You have two options:
- Transfer, which lets you retain your chat history, saved custom GPTs and other activity. If you have an active subscription, it will be canceled and refunded once the account is transferred.
- Export and delete, which deletes your personal workspace tied to your IU email. If you have an active subscription, it will be canceled and refunded once the account is transferred.
