How the benefit helps you save

The IU tuition benefit reduces the cost of IU tuition for eligible employees and family members. Whether you’re advancing your career, finishing a degree, exploring a new field or supporting a family member’s goals, this benefit helps make higher education more accessible and affordable.

Here’s what the benefit covers:

• Employees, medical and optometry residents, and retirees: A flat dollar amount toward tuition costs based on the campus where you’re enrolled and your degree program.
• For spouses: A flat dollar amount toward tuition costs based on the campus where they’re enrolled.
• For children under age 24: Half off the in-state, undergraduate tuition rate. The benefit can be used until they complete a bachelor’s degree or reach 140 credit hours of IU tuition benefit awards, whichever comes first.

Here’s how to apply for the fall 2025 benefit:

1. Be enrolled in IU courses. New students must already be registered before applying for the benefit.
2. Submit the online application by Oct. 30. A separate application is required for each student and for each campus of enrollment.
3. Receive the benefit. Once approved, the tuition benefit is applied directly to the student’s bursar account after tuition charges have been posted.

You can apply for the entire academic year at once, but applications do not renew automatically; you’ll need to reapply each year.

You can view and track all of your submitted tuition benefit applications — for yourself, your spouse and your children — in one convenient place. To access the dashboard, log in to the online application and select “View Submitted Applications” at the top of the screen.
