Indiana University President Pamela Whitten announced today that Rahul Shrivastav, current provost of IU Bloomington, will be elevated to a university-wide role as interim vice president for student success. With Shrivastav’s appointment, IU Bloomington Chancellor David Reingold announced that John Ciorciari, dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, will step into the role of interim provost at IU Bloomington.

“Rahul and John are trusted, experienced leaders who care deeply about Indiana University and the people who make this place exceptional,” President Whitten said. “These interim appointments allow us to move forward with clarity and confidence, keeping students at the center of our work and maintaining strong academic leadership at IU Bloomington.”

Photo provided by Office of the ProvostUnder Shrivastav’s leadership as provost, IU Bloomington has seen record enrollment and applications, the creation of 25 new academic programs and the recruitment of dozens of leading faculty. Shrivastav has also guided efforts to modernize teaching and research facilities, establish interdisciplinary research groups, expand experiential learning and spark innovative partnerships with industry. Before joining Indiana University, he served as vice president for instruction at the University of Georgia, overseeing undergraduate education and instructional innovation while advancing initiatives to improve retention and graduation rates.

Shrivastav assumes a role previously held by Brenda Stopher, who has chosen to step away from the position for personal reasons after four years of significant contributions to the university.

Ford School of Public Policy, brings extensive experience in academic leadership, faculty engagement and strategic planning. Under his leadership, the Hamilton Lugar School has expanded interdisciplinary programs, strengthened global partnerships and enhanced opportunities for students to connect their academic work to real-world challenges.

The Bloomington campus will conduct a formal search before naming a permanent provost at IU Bloomington. Information about the search process will be announced at a later date.
