Indiana University President Pamela Whitten announced today that Rahul Shrivastav, current provost of IU Bloomington, will be elevated to a university-wide role as interim vice president for student success. With Shrivastav’s appointment, IU Bloomington Chancellor David Reingold announced that John Ciorciari, dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, will step into the role of interim provost at IU Bloomington.
“Rahul and John are trusted, experienced leaders who care deeply about Indiana University and the people who make this place exceptional,” President Whitten said. “These interim appointments allow us to move forward with clarity and confidence, keeping students at the center of our work and maintaining strong academic leadership at IU Bloomington.”
Shrivastav assumes a role previously held by Brenda Stopher, who has chosen to step away from the position for personal reasons after four years of significant contributions to the university.
“Across IU, we’re here to ensure every student has an exceptional experience,” Shrivastav said. “This role is about making sure our systems, policies and daily practices come together in ways that genuinely support students and keep them moving confidently toward graduation and beyond. I’m grateful for the chance to advance this vital work alongside colleagues across IU.”
“IU Bloomington is renowned for its academic excellence,” Ciorciari said. “I care deeply about helping sustain and build on the tradition and positive momentum we have across the Bloomington campus.”
The Bloomington campus will conduct a formal search before naming a permanent provost at IU Bloomington. Information about the search process will be announced at a later date.
