Dr. Michael Feldman has been named interim dean for the Indiana University School of Medicine, effective June 1. Feldman currently chairs the school’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He succeeds Dr. Jay L. Hess, who will retire after serving as one of the nation’s longest-serving medical school deans.

Dr. Michael Feldman headshot Dr. Michael Feldman.“Dr. Feldman is a terrific choice to lead during this transition period, having exemplified the School of Medicine’s mission of patient care, education and research during his time leading the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine,” President Pamela Whitten said. “Dean Hess leaves the School of Medicine in a strong position, and we remain committed to identifying an exceptional leader to advance and further strengthen one of the nation’s leading medical schools.”

The national search for the School of Medicine’s next permanent dean continues.

Prior to his time as chair, Feldman served as vice chairman for clinical services for pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he was a faculty member for more than two decades.
