Committee named in search for IU Bloomington provost

A committee has been named for the search for Indiana University Bloomington’s provost and executive vice chancellor. John Ciorciari is serving in the role of interim provost following Rahul Shrivastav’s appointment as interim vice president for student success for Indiana University.

The provost is the chief academic officer of the Bloomington campus with responsibility for providing direction in matters related to academic programs, personnel and administration, including new campus academic initiatives; and creating a culture of rigorous and visionary scholarly and creative inquiry. The provost reports to the chancellor and serves as the number two leader of the campus.

The IU Executive Search team will manage the search. The position will be posted by mid-May, with applications accepted through late August. Search committee members include:

  • Co-chair: Richard DiMarchi, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Gill Chair in Biomolecular Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Co-chair: Kosali Simon, the Herman B Wells Endowed Professor of Public Affairs in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
  • Kathy Adams Riester, associate vice chancellor for student life and dean of students.
  • Heather Akou, professor of fashion design in the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design and Bloomington Faculty Council president-elect.
  • Curt Bonk, professor of instructional systems technology in the School of Education.
  • Carolyn Calloway-Thomas, professor of African American and African Diaspora studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Rowan Candy, professor of optometry and vision science and executive associate dean in the School of Optometry.
  • Greg Carter, associate professor of nursing and associate dean in the School of Nursing.
  • Erika Dowell, executive associate director of the Lilly Library and curator of modern manuscripts librarian.
  • Betsy Feeny, vice president of development at Indiana University Foundation.
  • Halina Goldberg, Distinguished Professor of Music (Musicology) in the Jacobs School of Music.
  • Jeff Heerdink-Santos, director of international experiences and undergraduate grants for Hutton Honors College and vice president of Bloomington Staff Council.
  • Cheryl Hughes, clinical associate professor of public affairs in the O’Neill School.
  • Daniel Loveless, associate professor of intelligent systems engineering in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering.
  • Armin Moczek, professor of biology in the College.
  • Brea Perry, professor of sociology in the College.
  • Bill Ramos, associate professor of applied health science in the School of Public Health-Bloomington and Bloomington Faculty Council president.
  • Steve Sanders, professor of law in the Maurer School of Law.
  • Ron Sela, associate professor of Central Eurasian Studies in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies.
  • Scott Shackelford, Provost Professor of Business Law and Ethics in the Kelley School of Business and associate vice president and vice chancellor for research.
  • Noah Stoffman, professor of finance in the Kelley School.
  • Sacha Thieme, associate vice chancellor and executive director of admissions.
  • Charles Trzcinka, professor of finance in the Kelley School.

An undergraduate and a graduate student representative will be named to the committee at a later date.
