At its April 1 meeting, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education formally concluded its review of academic programs at Indiana’s public colleges and universities that fell below statutory graduate thresholds outlined in state law.
Throughout a process that began in spring 2025, Indiana University engaged with deans and faculty to determine the academic programs for which the university submitted requests for continuation, consolidation or merger, or suspension and elimination. Approximately 4% of students were in programs affected by programs that were continued, consolidated or merged. Fewer than 0.6% of students were enrolled in programs that will be closed.
All revisions will take effect by the end of the 2026-27 academic year. Additional details about on the commission’s meeting and actions are available in the commission’s news release.
