Sugar and Spice is offering more homemade treats for the holidays this year, starting with Thanksgiving.

For the first time, the bakery is selling pumpkin bread and pumpkin rolls in November. It also has four varieties of pie available for order.

Thanksgiving orders must be placed by Nov. 20, and can be picked up Nov. 23 or 24.

That’s the first week the bakery is offering homemade gingerbread house kits for pickup, as well. Sugar and Spice started selling the take-home kits last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, as an alternative to in-person gingerbread house workshops. The kits allow families to safely continue what’s become a holiday tradition for many.

IU Dining area manager Ashley Massie started preparing for the busy holiday season in August.

Massie, who started the popular gingerbread house workshops at the Indiana Memorial Union six years ago, said she’s been ordering ingredients like powdered sugar for frosting since this summer due to concerns about supply chains.

“Things like candy — spice drops, candy canes — they are very difficult to source in bulk,” Massie said. “So we are focusing our efforts on making sure we can have gingerbread kits for people to make at home.”

Gingerbread house kits will be available until they sell out.
