IUPUI is hoping to do more than help host the 2022 Keeps Horizon League Basketball Championships next week; they want to win it and go dancing into the NCAA Tournament.
The four best men’s and women’s Horizon League teams head to Indianapolis for a two-day showdown March 7 and 8 that will decide the conference championships and automatic bids to the big dance.

The 21-6 Jaguars women’s basketball team won the Horizon League regular season and earned a No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament. IUPUI plays Robert Morris at 7 p.m. March 3 at The Jungle in the quarterfinal. If IUPUI advances, they would play at noon March 7 in the semifinals at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The women’s finals are set for noon March 8.
In the first round of the men’s bracket, the men’s team completed its season in a valiant 69-58 loss to Oakland with only five players available.
Every game of the championship will be carried on ESPN networks. The first three rounds of the Keeps Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship will be streamed on ESPN+ and the championship game broadcast on ESPNU.
The women’s basketball team is looking to win its second conference tournament in three years and is led by decorated center Macee Williams. Named the Horizon League Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive time, Williams is only the fourth player to earn that level of conference recognition in Division I women’s basketball history. She led the conference with 18.3 points on 62.7 percent shooting and 10.9 rebounds.
Senior Rachel McLimore and sophomore Rachel Kent earned All-League Second Team and Third Team honors respectively.
While it’s been a great season that’s included a remarkable 74-73 victory on the road against No. 15 Iowa, redemption is on the mind for coach Austin Parkinson and the Jaguars.
IUPUI celebrated underneath falling confetti in 2020 after winning the conference tournament, but the pandemic prevented the team from its first NCAA tournament appearance due to its cancellation. In 2021, IUPUI fell just short in the championship game to Wright State.
