Did you know IUPUI is home to an outdoor fitness garden?
Faculty, staff and students can get a full workout while enjoying the fall temperatures and foliage on the equipment outside the south entrance of the IU Natatorium.
The fitness garden, which opened in 2020, features 33 equipment stations for a variety of exercises, including sit-ups, assisted pushups, hip twists, chest presses, lat pull-downs and more. There are also benches, tables and charging stations.
The facility is open to the campus community year-round, seven days a week. The only exception is when classes use the equipment. Signs are posted when courses are in session.
Mark Urtel, chair of the Department of Kinesiology and a key member of the fitness garden project, said the best availability during the week is early in the morning and after 3 p.m. He encourages faculty, staff and students to take advantage of the free campus resource.
