Maylene Qiu appointed SciTech commons and research development director for Indianapolis campus

Maylene Qiu has been appointed director of SciTech commons and research development in the Indiana University Research Indianapolis office, where she provides technical and administrative support for research development. Qiu’s primary focus is on facilitating large-scale interdisciplinary research grant applications, which supports several goals of the IU Indianapolis 2030 strategic plan.
She joined IU in January, after 12 years at the University of Pennsylvania. As systematic review coordinator and clinical liaison at the Holman Biotech Commons at UPenn, she oversaw services related to knowledge synthesis, interdisciplinary research and technological support.
“Maylene’s experience and leadership in fostering a thriving research community and her track record of making significant contributions to research endeavors make her a valuable asset to the IU Research team,” said Phaedra Corso, associate vice president and vice chancellor for research, Indianapolis. “I look forward to working with her to strengthen and develop internal partnerships and build on industry support for our many SciTech initiatives.”
Qiu has worked in several countries in Asia and North America and also lived in Europe, bringing a wealth of international experience to the role. Her professional accomplishments include holding a leadership position with the Biotech Commons team at UPenn and playing a leading role in the successful commercialization of two products while working in a pharmaceutical-related career. Qiu also founded and cultivated an interdisciplinary team across multiple libraries at UPenn, leading their engagement in a multitude of projects across various domains.
She earned a master’s degree in library and information studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
