Registration is open for the 2025 Plater-Moore Conference on Teaching and Learning, an annual event that brings together educators across Indiana University for a free day of professional development and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 4 at the IU Indianapolis Campus Center. Coffee and morning refreshments will be provided, along with lunch and an afternoon dessert reception.
This year’s program will feature José Antonio Bowen, a globally recognized educator, author and innovator, as the keynote speaker.
Bowen has been a leader in innovation and education for over 40 years, serving as president of Goucher College and as a faculty member at Stanford, Georgetown and other prestigious institutions. A Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer, award-winning author and acclaimed speaker, Bowen has earned numerous accolades for his contributions to teaching and learning, including the Ernest L. Boyer Award for contributions to American higher education.
He will lead an interactive keynote workshop exploring practical strategies for designing future-proof, inclusive classrooms in the age of artificial intelligence.
“AI is rapidly changing how humans work, think and learn,” Bowen said. “This conference is an opportunity to reimagine teaching practices and prepare educators for an AI-driven future.”
Bowen’s book “Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning” will guide the interactive keynote workshop.
IU Indianapolis Provost Jay Gladden will offer opening remarks, and the afternoon program will feature over 30 peer-reviewed presentations in a variety of formats led by 51 IU faculty and staff from 12 schools and units.
Session topics include inclusive teaching strategies, promotion and tenure, generative AI, innovative grading strategies and more. Conference participants are invited to attend the resource fair and stay for the afternoon poster sessions, door prizes and reception.
This year’s conference is co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning, Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, Division of Undergraduate Education, Office of Academic Affairs, Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching, Top Hat, University Information Technology Services, and the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering.
