Associate vice chancellor for auxiliary services appointed

Campus Center Director Joe Hayes has been appointed associate vice chancellor for auxiliary services at Indiana University Indianapolis effective June 1.

Photo by Indiana University In the role, Hayes will provide vision, leadership and operational oversight for IU Indianapolis Auxiliary Services, which includes Dining Services, IU Natatorium, Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium, Center for Young Children, Parking Services, Print & Mail Services, and Surplus.

He will continue to serve in his Campus Center role and ensure seamless service between the two organizations.

Hayes brings over two decades of experience in higher education and has demonstrated his ability to build connections between groups. His strong commitment to student success and collaboration across the campus will ensure the continuing focus on providing exceptional service from Auxiliary Services.

“Our campus auxiliary services play a pivotal role in the lives of our students, faculty and staff and the greater Indianapolis community,” Hayes said. “I am so excited to be a part of the organization and am honored to continue to serve our university. Working together we will positively enhance the experiences of all we serve.”

Hayes began working on the Indianapolis campus in 2012 in the Division of Student Affairs, serving as assistant dean of students. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Marquette University, a Master of Education from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Education from the University of Missouri.

Before working in higher education, Hayes served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. He completed multiple overseas deployments, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander.
