‘IU will always be home’ for alumna living in The Villages

Janet Weinraub has lived in Florida for nearly 50 years but still considers herself a Hoosier at heart.
“IU will always be home,” she said.
Weinraub graduated from the Indiana University School of Education in Bloomington in 1974 and moved south just two years later. She now lives in The Villages, where her IU pride and loyalty are on full display. She’s a member of the IU Club, which regularly meets to watch and cheer the Hoosiers in football and basketball. Her home is also filled memorabilia from her alma mater, and some of the items tell the story of her family’s history with the university.
“Everybody in our family, all the Weinraubs, graduated from IU,” she said.
That includes her uncle Sidney “Sid” Weiss, who was part of the 1937 football team. Weinraub has a framed poster of the football schedule from that year hanging on one of her walls.
She said she’s proud of her family’s tradition of attending IU, and that graduating from the school shouldn’t be taken for granted.
“I just want the IU students out there to know that as they graduate and move on to whatever in their careers, it’s something to be proud of,” she said.
