Chris Arvin named executive director for Recreational Sports

Chris Arvin will assume the role of executive director June 1 after serving as the interim executive director since Sept. 1. He will partner with students for their successful development of active and healthy lifestyles, as well as provide leadership, vision and direction for comprehensive recreational programming at IU Bloomington.
Arvin has prior experience leading health and well-being programs in corporate and health care settings. He also has extensive experience as a lecturer for the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington. For the past 18 years, he has been with Recreational Sports as a program director.
On July 1, Recreational Sports will join the Division of Student Affairs.
“We are thrilled to welcome Recreational Sports, who has been a national leader in their field, into the Division of Student Affairs,” said Dave O’Guinn, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students. “The positive impact they already have on students will only be magnified with the addition of Chris Arvin as the executive director.
“Chris is a collaborative, creative and experienced leader with established relationships on our campus. I have no doubt that under his leadership, Recreational Sports will become a more inclusive place for all Hoosiers with an increased focused on holistic wellness.”
Arvin received his undergraduate degree from IU Bloomington and his master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University.
“It has been my professional mission to enhance the health and well-being of populations for over 25 years,” Arvin said. “This has been my passion and my purpose. I care deeply about Indiana University, and I believe that well-being is the underpinning for student engagement, retention and success. We are excited to become a part of the larger team in the Division of Student Affairs and to work closely with so many colleagues who care deeply about student life on our campus.”
