Since 1955, IU has played a crucial role in the dissemination and preservation of programs from National Educational Television, the nation’s first educational television network.
The IU Audio-Visual Center was selected by National Education Television to be the exclusive distributor of their films until the network was replaced by the Public Broadcasting Service in 1970.
This digital collection was created to honor the legacy of National Education Television by making educational content more visible and accessible to the public. It provides context for this period of American public broadcasting as well as IU’s early investment in media as a tool for teaching.
