What you need to know for move-in

By Residential Programs and Services

August 12, 2021

Welcome Week is back, which means thousands of new students will be moving into the residence halls. Between Sunday, Aug. 15, and Wednesday, Aug. 18, Residential Programs and Services expects to welcome more than 11,000 students into the residence halls.

Since IU employees haven’t experienced anything like this since August 2019, here are a few reminders:

  • There will be thousands of new people with their vehicles in town.
  • COVID-19 Check and residence hall check-in will take place in the north lobby of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
  • Traffic on the State Road 45/46 Bypass will be heavier than usual.
  • The direction of traffic will change on some streets for these four days:
    • Sunrise Drive  will be one-way south.
    • North Campbell Street will reverse direction and be one-way south.
    • North Walnut Grove Street will be one-way south.
  • Parking lots on East 13th, 10th and Union streets, and the Blue and Green Lots, will be used for move-in parking.
  • The Freshman Induction Ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. Aug. 18 in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Those who have returned to work on campus may want to work remotely again for a few days. If that isn’t an option, consider other ways to get to and from campus, like biking, taking a bus, sharing a ride with co-workers or using a ride-share service. To avoid adding to off-campus traffic at lunchtime, consider having a pitch-in with co-workers, or try one of the new dining options in the Indiana Memorial Union.
