Internal search to launch for vice provost for research at IU Bloomington
April 21, 2023
Indiana University will seek an internal candidate to fill the position of associate vice president and vice provost for research on the IU Bloomington campus. The search comes on the heels of this week’s hiring of Vice President for Research Russell Mumper, who will step into the role July 1.
“The President, Vice President Mumper and I share a commitment to ensuring that we have a senior Bloomington research colleague with extensive experience and connections with faculty across the Bloomington campus serving in this role,” IU Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Rahul Shrivastav said. “I continue to be incredibly excited for the opportunities we have ahead to expand our research and creative activity and increase our impact across the communities we serve.”
The search, which will launch with the appointment of a search committee in the coming week, will be open to all tenured, full professor, Bloomington faculty. Scott Michaels, professor and chair of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Biology, has agreed to chair the search.
This position will lead research and creative activity on the Bloomington campus and collaborate closely with faculty, academic deans, research centers, institutes, museums, and other university and campus leaders to strategically advance the campus’s research enterprise and fulfill the ambitious goals in the IUB 2030 strategic plan.
The position will report jointly to the vice president for research and the provost.
Shrivastav thanked Brea Perry for her service as interim vice provost for the past year, saying this search comes ahead of her upcoming sabbatical leave and the July 1 arrival of the university’s new vice president for research.
