By Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs
April 22, 2025
Indiana University Bloomington will recommend the appointment of four faculty as Provost Professors and one faculty member as the Class of 1948 Herman B Wells Professor to the IU Board of Trustees. Both professorships represent a significant honor to faculty who have achieved distinction in research/creative activity and excellence in teaching.
“These distinguished faculty members exemplify the highest standards of scholarly achievement, creative activity and service to our campus,” said Rahul Shrivastav, IU Bloomington provost and executive vice president. “Their appointments and recognitions reflect not only their individual excellence but also the collective strength of IU Bloomington’s academic community. We are proud to celebrate their extraordinary contributions.”
The Provost Professorship was created in 1995 to honor those who have achieved local, national and international distinction in both teaching and research/creative activity.
Those recommended for appointment as Provost Professors are:
- Jean Camp, professor in the Department of Computer Science in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering.
- Ray Cashman, professor in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Jaroslaw Harezlak, professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health-Bloomington.
- Joel Wong, professor in the Department of Applied Psychology in Education and Research Methodology in the School of Education.
The Herman B Wells Professorship was endowed by the IU Bloomington classes of 1948 and 1950 and recognizes faculty on the Bloomington campus who embrace deep concern for the well-being of students and devotion to diversity, inclusion and academic excellence, reflecting the values of Wells, a former IU president and chancellor.
Martin A. McCrory, the Eveleigh Professor of Business Leadership in the Kelley School of Business, is recommended for appointment to the Class of 1948 Herman B Wells Professorship.
“It’s a joy to highlight faculty who not only set a standard of excellence in research amongst their disciplines, but their work in the classroom also highlights the dedication and care that go into educating our students,” Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs Carrie Docherty said. “Each of these scholars reflect the best of IU Bloomington and set an example of excellence in research and teaching for years to come.”
All of the award recipients were recommended by a faculty committee sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs. All honorees will be celebrated at a reception in the fall 2025 semester.
