New transportation options support travel at IU Bloomington and beyond

IU Transportation has two new options to get faculty, staff and students from Point A to Point B.

Fleet Services allows faculty, staff and temporary employees to rent a vehicle for university business purposes. An hourly rental option, rather than the minimum one-day rental, has been added for vehicles, including mid-size cars, SUVs, minivans and mini buses.

Also new is the bus-tracking software ETA Spot, which launched in August and allows real-time bus tracking, similar to Lyft or Uber.

Riders can track the B, E, F, W and X bus routes to check bus locations and distances from the next stop. Riders also can receive alerts about issues affecting bus schedules or service. An ETA Spot mobile app is available for Apple and Android devices.

While those services are new, don’t forget about these other beneficial services:

  • Legally parked vehicles on campus are eligible for the Motorist Assistance Program three times a year, kind of like IU Bloomington’s own AAA. This covers jump-starting a battery, unlocking car doors, changing a tire or even providing fuel.
  • Traveling to another IU campus? Use Hoosier Rideboard to find carpool partners.
  • Prefer biking, walking or taking the bus to campus? Consider signing up for the Hoosier Commuter Club.
