Great leaders seek to develop their employees and themselves. Indiana University wants to give its leaders — managers of people and teams — the tools they need to succeed.
The IU Human Resources Talent and Organization Development Team is launching another Leading at IU Series in February. This nine-month virtual series focuses on developing leaders at IU through building critical skills while allowing participants to network and learn from their peers across the university.
“This is an opportunity you don’t want to let pass you by,” said past participant Christopher Cook, training supervisor for the IU School of Social Work’s Child Welfare Education and Training Partnership. “The curriculum is thorough, well-organized and well-presented.”
The curriculum is based on the IU Staff Competencies, which is the roadmap for how everyone at IU can maximize their potential. Each month, the series will introduce a valuable leadership skill or behavior, helpful tools and resources for managers, and opportunities to apply the learning.
Cook said he particularly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from fellow leaders.
“Our class was a diverse group that represented all facets of IU, but we were all focused on improving our leadership skills and helping our teams achieve their full potential,” he said. “I learned so much from fellow participants, which makes this series stand out. I highly recommend the Leading at IU Series for anyone who wants to continue to grow professionally and learn new concepts that you can apply immediately.”
About the series:
- It’s open to all employees university-wide — at any career level — who manage staff.
- The time commitment is 2½ hours each month, February through October.
- Enrollment is limited to 200 qualified participants.
- Applications will be accepted through Jan. 15.
