New medical plan ID cards for 2022

By IU Human Resources

December 16, 2021

As announced during Open Enrollment, all IU medical plan members will be issued new ID cards for 2022. Most participants will also see a new group number on their card, so it’s imperative that these new cards are used starting Jan. 1, 2022. Review the information below for plan-specific details and timelines.

If you’re enrolled in an Anthem medical plan — including the Anthem PPO HDHP, PPO $500 Deductible, Graduate Appointee PPO or IU Resident PPO — you should receive your new ID cards at your home address within the next few weeks unless you opted to receive digital-only cards. Cards will continue to be issued under the employee’s name only but should be used by all covered family members.

Cards can also be accessed digitally by logging in to Anthem.com or the Sydney Health app. Both your 2021 and 2022 cards will be visible through the end of the year, but you should begin using your new card for medical, vision and pharmacy services starting on Jan. 1, 2022.

If you’re enrolled in the IU Health HDHP, you should receive your new ID cards at your home address within the next few weeks. Cards will continue to be issued under the employee’s name and should be used by all covered family members.

Cards can also be accessed digitally by logging in to IUHealthPlans.org. Your existing vision and pharmacy ID cards issued in prior years will remain valid in 2022, but you should begin using your new medical ID card for all medical services starting on Jan. 1, 2022.

If you’re enrolled in the IU Dental Plan, you will not receive physical ID cards from Cigna, but you can log in to MyCigna.com at any time to view or print a personalized card.

If you’re enrolled in the Health Savings Account or Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Nyhart will automatically issue IU Benefit Cards (debit-type Visa cards) to any new HSA or Healthcare FSA participants, or to any existing participants whose cards are expiring. IU Benefit Cards are active for three years and are automatically reissued as they expire.

Other IU benefits do not issue ID cards, so you’re encouraged to visit the IU Benefits website to learn more about your coverage under those plans. Questions about benefit plans or ID cards can be directed to AskHR at askhr@iu.edu or 812-856-1234.
