Your voice matters: 3rd staff engagement survey launches Feb. 15

By IU Human Resources

January 20, 2022

Indiana University Human Resources has once again partnered with the Gallup polling organization to launch another staff employee engagement survey on Feb. 15: My Voice at IU.

The quick online survey collects feedback from staff employees on how they feel about working at IU: whether they feel valued, whether their contributions matter, and the level of pride in their work.

The goal of the survey is to help IU better understand the needs of its employees, what the university and units are doing well, and where there are opportunities to improve. Results guide discussions about the work environment and help units create plans to improve the work experience for their employees, Interim Vice President for Human Resources Laura Kress said.

“IU remains committed to creating an environment where employees feel engaged in their work,” Kress said. “Each employee should be proud of their outstanding work at IU, especially in light of the events of the past two years. This follow-up survey gives us a snapshot of the staff experience at IU at a very unique time. Taking the survey is important; it’s the first step in a process that empowers staff to drive change and enhance their work experience at IU.

“We recognize that the COVID-19 pandemic put many action plans on hold. This year’s survey can help staff evaluate where they are now and function as a starting point for new conversations on how to enhance engagement at the unit level.”

How the survey works:

  • On Feb. 15, all staff employees hired on or before Jan. 1, 2022, will receive an email invitation from Gallup — a third-party survey administrator — with a unique link to the survey.
  • Click the secure link to begin the 25-question survey. It should take about 10 minutes to complete. Staff can save their progress to finish later if interrupted.
  • Staff can complete the survey during work hours.
  • It is available 24/7 and can be completed using most mobile devices.
  • The survey closes at midnight March 8.

After the survey

All answers are kept strictly confidential by Gallup. Results will be aggregated in groups of no fewer than five employees, and no individual responses are shared with IU or its leadership.

Aggregate survey data will be shared with work units for their discussion and planning purposes beginning in June. Leaders and staff can then work together to create action plans to enhance their work environment.

IU Human Resources will provide continued information about the survey to employees via IU Today and email. Staff employees should watch their IU email on Feb. 15 for their invitation to the survey.
