Drop-off testing is the most convenient and efficient way for students, faculty and staff to get tested for COVID-19 through IU. The process involves picking up a testing kit on campus at your convenience, registering the kit, completing the test when needed and then dropping it off in a designated location on campus.

The tests are saliva-based PCR tests just like those used at in-person voluntary and COVID Check testing. Results are provided within 72 hours via email.

Over the past few months, IU has added more campuses to drop-off testing and created easier ways to get a test kit:

Now available on more campuses

Drop-off testing is available on both core campuses (IU Bloomington and IUPUI) and all regional campuses. Other testing options are being explored for IU Fort Wayne and IUPUC.

Each campus has designated locations for picking up a test kit, and students, faculty and staff can pick up as many as two at a time.

IU Bloomington and IUPUI also have kits available in residence halls for students living in on-campus housing. IU Bloomington students can complete an askRPS form to request a kit, while IUPUI students should stop by the community desk of their building to request a kit.

More convenient pickup

IU Bloomington and IUPUI have worked with Five Star Food Service, the university’s vending machine partner, to install machines to dispense drop-off test kits on both campuses.

In Bloomington, dispensing machines are located in the circle drive breezeway at the Indiana Memorial Union and in the center building of McNutt.

IUPUI’s machines are on the first floor of the Campus Center — just past the food court by the southwest entrance (Vermont Street parking garage entrance) — and inside the main entrance of University Library.

The test kits are free for IU students, faculty and staff. At IUPUI, you’ll slide the vending machine door open, reach in and grab a kit. At IU Bloomington, you’ll use the buttons to select what you want. The kit will drop down, and you’ll pick it up in the bottom of the machine.
