Have you heard? Commencement is on like it’s 2019

While we aren’t quite done with COVID-19, conditions have improved enough that commencement ceremonies at IU Bloomington and IUPUI, as well as the regionals, will happen just like they did before the pandemic. The events are all in-person. Families and friends are welcome, masks are optional and student milestones will be celebrated.
The IU Bloomington Spring Graduate Commencement is at 3 p.m. Friday, May 6 in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with Spring Undergraduate Commencement following on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. in Memorial Stadium. The IUPUI Graduate Commencement is at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14 in Michael A. Carroll Stadium with Undergraduate Commencement to follow in Carroll Stadium at 4 p.m.
All of the ceremonies will be conducted in the same manner as the last time a fully in-person commencement with spectators occurred in 2019. No testing, ticketing, or other requirements for graduates or guests are required. Anyone who wants to wear a mask can, but masks are also not required.
Additionally, schools on the campuses may hold their own graduation recognition events. While the events will vary by school, all have typically recognized graduates individually.
Given the size of the graduating classes at IU Bloomington and IUPUI, it is tradition for students to be individually recognized at their school’s recognition event while they can celebrate their graduation with the entire class at the campus commencement ceremony.
Plans for some individual school events may still be in development. Contact your school to learn about their specific plans.
