Start the mental health conversation
By IU Human Resources
May 19, 2022
That’s why for this year’s Mental Health Month, IU Human Resources is teaming up with SupportLinc to highlight things you can do to offer #SupportNotStigma by normalizing conversations about mental health and encouraging help-seeking behavior.
Start the conversation
Having open, authentic conversations about mental health can foster a workplace culture that’s inclusive and normalizes the need for mental health resources.
- Learn how to start the conversation and how the words you use matter.
- Educate yourself about mental and behavioral health conditions from reputable sources such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness or Mental Health America.
- Hear IU employees’ personal stories about navigating mental health at work and at home by registering for the May 24 webinar, Experiencing Life with a Mental Health Illness.
Encourage help-seeking behavior
An equally important part of destigmatization is encouraging yourself and others to seek help if you’re struggling. These resources are available to IU employees and family members who need some extra support.
- SupportLinc EAP: Access free, 24/7, confidential support and referrals from licensed clinicians by calling 888-881-LINC (5462). Visit iu.mysupportportal.com to access additional resources such as virtual support groups, text therapy, digital behavioral therapy and more.
- Online screening: Take an online self-screening test to determine whether you are experiencing the symptoms of a mental health condition.
- IU medical plans: All IU medical plans cover behavioral health services, including therapy, counseling and substance use disorder treatment. Call the number on your medical plan ID card to learn how these services are covered or to find a provider.
- Healthy IU Work+Life: Explore the different options for treatment and find local or national counseling resources and support.
