As summer begins, people everywhere are starting to travel. Whether you plan to journey across the state, the nation or the world, travel is bound to bring some uncertainties. However, there is one thing you can be certain of: No matter where you are in the world, as full-time employees or medical and optometry residents, these IU benefits will be there to support you if you need them.
Emergency travel assistance
Your IU-provided basic life insurance includes 24/7 access to Assist America. This program helps you prepare for trips and respond to emergencies while you are traveling more than 100 miles from home or internationally for up to 180 days.
Some of the services offered include:
- Pre-trip assistance, such as visa/passport requirements, currency exchange and embassy referrals.
- Medical emergency support.
- Legal referrals and bail.
- Help locating lost/stolen items.
- Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation.
There is no cost for enrollment or for many of the services provided; however, participants may be responsible for some expenses, such as for replacing lost or stolen items. Before traveling, be sure to review the Assist America Program Guide and download the Assist America app to learn about their full range of services, any associated costs or fees, and how to access help 24/7.
