August Scholar of the Month Conversation

A series of monthly presentations is furthering the IUPUI Center for Translating Research Into Practice’s mission of promoting and broadcasting the important research of IUPUI’s faculty members.

The Center for TRIP Scholar of the Month Conversation Series August speaker is Helen Sanematsu, associate professor of visual communication design in the IUPUI Herron School of Art + Design.

Design is often viewed as an effort to improve appearance for appearance’s sake. Design methodology, widely known as design thinking, has much broader relevance.

Sanematsu uses design methods to create a “good fit” between problems, solutions and people, particularly in health care. Her research in service design helps tailor interventions in medicine and community health by focusing on people’s real-life actions, environments, thoughts and emotions.

During the Scholar of the Month discussion, Sanematsu will share examples of her work in service design from collaborations with the IU School of Medicine, and show how her research and teaching overlap.

The presentation will take place from noon to 1 p.m.  Aug. 26 via Zoom. Register on the TRIP Center website
