Benefits Open Enrollment starts Oct. 24
By IU Human Resources
September 30, 2022
Open Enrollment is the annual opportunity for benefit-eligible employees to review and change their benefits for the upcoming year. This includes enrolling in medical and dental coverage, re-signing the Tobacco-Free Affidavit, adding or removing dependents, making an annual pledge to the health or dependent care flexible spending account, and enrolling in supplemental AD&D coverage. You can also decide how much to contribute to your Health Savings Account beginning in January 2023.
Elections made during Open Enrollment take effect on Jan. 1, 2023, and must remain in place for the entire year unless you experience an IRS-qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce or the birth of a child.
The list below highlights 2023 plan changes only. For full plan details and premiums, visit the Open Enrollment website.
Health care coverage
Premiums
- Slight increase to employee contributions for medical and dental coverage.
- Three lowest salary bands for medical and dental coverage raised to include more employees in the lower-cost premium groups.
All medical plans
- New travel benefit of up to $2,000 annually for covered medical services that are not available within 100 miles of a member’s home.
- Expanded programming through Livongo for medical plan members with certain chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension.
- Discontinuation of Castlight in 2023. However, all medical plan members will have access to Anthem’s Sydney Health app for 24/7 access to cost comparisons for medical services, digital ID cards, benefit and claim details, and more.
Anthem PPO HDHP
- Slight increase to deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums,
- New ID cards with updated deductible and out-of-pocket maximum amounts issued for all members.
Anthem PPO $500 Deductible
- Increase to in-network out-of-pocket maximum for prescriptions.
IU Health HDHP
This plan will be discontinued for 2023. IU Health Plans is no longer supporting IU’s specific plan, so all members will be consolidated to a single vendor, Anthem, in 2023.
Current IU Health HDHP participants will be automatically enrolled in the Anthem PPO HDHP and HSA starting Jan. 1, 2023, unless a different plan or coverage level is selected during Open Enrollment. Learn more about this change.
Spending and savings accounts
Health Savings Account
- Increased IRS annual contribution maximums.
Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts
- Increased annual contribution maximum and carryover limit for Healthcare FSA.
- Dependent Care FSA no longer front-loaded.
Supplemental AD&D
- No plan or premium changes.
If you do not complete online Open Enrollment, you will retain your medical, dental, HSA and supplemental AD&D coverage in 2023 (except for current IU Health HDHP members, who will be automatically enrolled in the Anthem PPO HDHP). However, you will not be enrolled in the health care or dependent care flexible spending accounts and will not receive the Tobacco-Free Affidavit premium reduction in 2023. Those benefits require an annual election to participate.
