University announces 2 new leaders

Indiana University has named a new university director of financial aid and a new military and veterans services coordinator.

Sarah Soper. Sarah Soper became university director of financial aid effective Nov. 7. The position reports to the associate vice president in the Office of the Vice President for Student Success. She replaces Jenny Stephens, who is retiring Dec. 31.

Soper comes to the office from her previous role as executive director of student financial services at IU East. She has over 15 years of combined experience in financial aid and has been exemplary in providing service to students while keeping the campus in full compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policies.

Her experience also includes financial aid roles at Ivy Tech and IU Bloomington. Soper has been active in financial aid associations, including serving as president of the Indiana State Financial Aid Association. She has also served two elected terms as the association’s governmental relations commissioner and state liaison.

“Sarah joins the student success team as we continue working with campus partners on financial aid processes, compliance and automation to assist students with the financial resources needed to complete their degree,” said Jim Kennedy, associate vice president for university student services and systems. “She will provide the leadership needed to keep IU compliant with the many changing regulations while playing a key role in financial aid strategy to meet our enrollment goals.”

Savanna Hebert-Annis. Savanna Hebert-Annis became university military and veterans services coordinator in the Office of the Vice President for Student Success, effective Oct. 17.

Hebert-Annis will replace John Summerlot, who has taken a new role at IU in public safety. This is a 50-50 split position with the IU South Bend campus.

Hebert-Annis brings over 10 years of service in higher education, and seven of those were spent working directly with service members, veterans, dependents and their families to achieve their academic, personal and professional goals.

Her expertise includes working with students, both civilian and military, to foster the transition into the college experience. She specializes in VA education benefits, campus engagement, information literacy and event management to aid in the recruitment, retention and success of all students, with particular emphasis on military personnel/veterans and their dependents.
