Mid-career faculty and professional staff at IUPUI who are interested in seeking leadership opportunities, and are from historically marginalized and/or minoritized backgrounds in higher education, can apply for membership in the 2023-24 cohort of Next Generation 2.0.

This leadership development program is part of the IUPUI Strategic Plan to develop the campus’s faculty and staff and promote an inclusive climate.

The nine-month training prepares participants to step into and/or create leadership opportunities in their units and schools by engaging with campus leaders and experts at IUPUI and other academic institutions on topics such as:

  • The contemporary higher education environment.
  • Planning and leading change.
  • Managing strategic resources.
  • Diversity and cultural competency.
  • Higher education finance.
  • Conflict management and negotiation.

Participants can also identify, plan and implement a capstone project individually or in groups responding to an identified need of their department, campus or the Indianapolis community.

More than 150 faculty and staff members have participated in the program.

Positive feedback from alumni of the program includes:

“I found the Next Gen 2.0 Leadership program to be so invigorating to my professional development. I greatly appreciate the chance to engage in an honest, thoughtful and directed program that builds leadership at all levels.”

“Next Generation 2.0 was a game changer for my career. It delivered everything promised, and so much more.”

Eligible faculty and staff can apply for the 2023-24 cohort through March 12.

Selected participants are required to attend a two-hour orientation session in August and attend the program one Friday of the month between September 2023 and May 2024 on the IUPUI campus. Program fees for the institute are paid by the sponsoring unit, with a match from the Office of Academic Affairs.

Applications will be reviewed by the program advisory board. Chosen participants will be notified the week of April 24.
