Performance at IU reminders

The IU Human Resources Talent and Organization Development team — experts in engagement and growth driving Performance at IU: A culture of conversations — wants to remind participants about the fast-approaching March 31 deadlines, last-minute support options, and helpful information about attestations related to the new, uniform performance management process for many appointed staff employees.

Wrap conversations by March 31

Participating staff should complete their two-way “expectation conversation” with their leader (manager or supervisor) by March 31. These guided conversations help bring clarity to each staff member’s role and the expectations of that role. Participants can use the conversation guide and form available on the project website.

Live support ends March 29

If you were waiting until the last minute to get support from the IUHR Talent and Organization Development team, this is it. The team ends its office hours at noon March 29. Participating staff and leaders can drop in to ask for guidance and support.

Visit the training and support page for a schedule of the remaining office hours.

Additional resources always available on the project website include an FAQ and recorded educational sessions.

Complete attestations no later than April 15

The attestation is a quick digital sign-off acknowledging that you had (or didn’t have) a conversation about the expectations of your role with your leader. It asks three questions: Whether you had the conversation, who held it with you, and whether it helped you understand what’s expected of you. The attestation allows IU to benchmark the program’s growth and participation.

The attestation is available on One.IU (search for “Performance Management”) or via reminder emails from IU Human Resources.

Staff are expected to complete the attestation, whether they did or did not participate in the conversation, no later than April 15.

Once you complete your attestation, you will cease to receive reminder emails about it.

What’s next: Check-in conversations

The second of four guided conversations that will help IU staff build a culture of conversations at IU is the “check-in conversation.” No deadline or attestation is associated with this conversation; it’s a quick exercise that should become routine between staff and leaders.

This conversation builds upon previously set expectations and as the name suggests, it gives teams a quick way to check in on progress, barriers, development and other goals. As with the first conversation tool, a guide and template will be available to help build the muscles needed to support these more frequent conversations.

Participating staff and leaders will receive timely emails as the program continues.
