May Scholar of the Month Conversation

The May speaker for the Center for TRIP Scholar of the Month Conversation Series is Sylk Sotto, an assistant professor of medicine who teaches several courses in research ethics and culturally relevant practices in medicine.

Sylk Sotto She also serves in leadership roles across the Indiana University School of Medicine, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Office of Community Outreach and Engagement.

During the Scholar of the Month discussion, Sotto will share perspectives and offer practical approaches on trust and trustworthiness in biomedical research, including why trust is crucial in community-engaged research for fostering mutually respectful relationships.

The talk will also explore why measuring trust is important for evidence-based strategies to improve recruitment and engagement, and for practitioners and researchers to reflect on their own trustworthiness. 

The monthly conversation series furthers the IUPUI Center for Translating Research Into Practice’s mission of promoting and broadcasting the important research of IUPUI’s faculty members. Sotto’s presentation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. May 26 via Zoom. Register on the TRIP Center website
