Rebecca Carl, associate vice president for University Communications and Marketing, has announced her plans to transition to teaching and consulting, effective June 30.
During her 14-year tenure at IU, she served as associate vice president for government relations and economic engagement, assistant vice president for marketing, chief communications officer and interim vice president for communications and marketing.
“Rebecca has provided critical expertise to the university, and it has been a privilege to work alongside her,” said Nancy Paton, vice president for communications and marketing. “Her strategic contributions over the past several years have helped establish a strong foundation for our work.”
Carl, a recipient of the IU Bicentennial Medal, led several initiatives during her time at IU, including the Bicentennial presidential tour and establishing a university-wide consortium of communications expertise to guide the university’s COVID-19 response.
Serving as an adjunct instructor for many years alongside her leadership roles, Carl has taught in the Kelley School of Business and the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, both at IUPUI. She will continue in her teaching role, as well as provide consulting expertise to multiple organizations, including issues management and strategic communications support.
“Indiana University holds a special place in my heart, and I have been honored to support its mission in leadership roles,” Carl said. “Beyond the tremendous professional experience I have enjoyed at IU, it’s played an important role in our family, with my two daughters earning their degrees here. It has been a point of pride to call IU home, and I look forward to continuing to show my Hoosier pride through teaching.”
