Offices that provide accommodations and accessibility measures to students on Indiana University campuses throughout the state are all changing their name to Accessible Educational Services.

“This overarching name change was made in collaboration with student disability services coordinators from all IU campuses, and is in alignment with a recommendation from the Association on Higher Education and Disability,” said Julie Payne-Kirchmeier, Vice President for Student Success. “The name change supports IU’s commitment to provide an accessible and inclusive experience for all students, regardless of ability. This change is also a more accurate representation of services provided to students, many of whom might not identify as disabled but who need accommodations to support their IU experience.”

The name change will more succinctly describe the work these offices do to provide access to educational content, including helping faculty provide approved academic accommodations. It is also intended to streamline processes to make university-wide navigation easier for students who attend multiple campuses.

Accessible Educational Services offices ensure that students with qualifying medical conditions on each campus have the tools and resources that provide equal access and reasonable academic accommodations. The offices also serve pregnant students who may need accommodations. The offices work with students to determine whether a student qualifies for accommodations, approve reasonable accommodations and ensure those accommodations are implemented.

The offices changing names are those formerly known as:
