Homecoming: Here’s what you need to know
By IU Bloomington Today
October 16, 2023
This is a week that’s been circled on the calendars of Indiana University alumni and faculty, staff and students. It’s a time to celebrate one’s connection to and experiences at the university.
It’s homecoming.
The culmination of a week of celebrations and events will be the football game against Rutgers at noon Oct. 21 at Memorial Stadium. The game will include a flyover by a KC-135 military airplane. At halftime, the Marching Hundred’s performance will be “Good Hair Day,” featuring music from Harry Potter, Harry Styles and hair bands of the 1980s. Also, IU athletes who earned a varsity letter 50 years ago will be recognized, and the alumni band will perform.
As a reminder, two changes have been made to parking at Memorial Stadium: the convenience of mobile parking passes, and “zipper” parking for all vehicles in general-admission grass parking lots immediately south of the stadium.
The football game is just one of many things to enjoy during the week.
The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at 13th Street and Woodlawn Avenue and head to 17th Street. People can line the streets and watch the floats and other parade entries, including a performance by the Marching Hundred to end the parade.
The location of the parade will make it easy afterward for attendees to head into Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to enjoy Hoosier Hysteria, which starts at 7:30 p.m. and provides a first look at the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The Indiana University Alumni Association will start game day at 9 a.m. at the DeVault Alumni Center with the Hoosier Huddle, a family-friendly tailgate event for IU Alumni Association supporters and their guests.
Homecoming started with a week of student activities. Upcoming events include:
- Decorating tote bags.
- Making tie-dye shirts.
- A fun run.
- A movie night.
- Pumpkin picking and decorating.
Homecoming has a special meaning for one Bloomington family. IU and Kelley School of Business students, faculty and staff are building a home for the family through Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County.
An official groundbreaking and celebration will take place at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at the building site in Osage Place,
