A new annual ceremony will honor IU Bloomington faculty, staff and students who have died over the past year. The first event is planned for spring 2024.
“Remembering Hoosiers: A Memorial Service for IU Bloomington Faculty, Staff and Students” will take place at 4 p.m. March 26 at Presidents Hall in Franklin Hall. The event will replace a similar one held for students who had passed, but it has been broadened to also honor faculty and staff.
“This inaugural ceremony will mark the start of a new tradition for our campus to more fully acknowledge and honor the members of our university community who pass away throughout the year,” IU Bloomington Provost Rahul Shrivastav said. “It is our wish that this ceremony will provide a space for friends and families to gather in remembrance of their loved ones, and to honor the relationship that those lost had with Indiana University.”
A work group made up of representatives from various campus units — including the Office of the Provost, IU Human Resources, the Office of Student Life, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, University Events, and campus clergy — met for several months to plan the new event.
Additional details will be shared in the future.
