Photo by James Brosher, Indiana UniversityIn-person classes on Indiana University campuses across the state will be canceled on April 8, 2024, in response to the total solar eclipse that will pass over North America.

Several locations — including the IU campuses in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Richmond and Columbus — will be in the path of totality, where the sun is completely eclipsed by the moon.

Communities across the state, including those that are home to IU campuses, expect a significant influx of visitors as people come to view the eclipse. Bloomington alone is expected to see a population increase of 300,000 people.

IU Public Safety is working with local communities to assess needs and provide resources where needed, and IU Human Resources is assessing related staff needs. More information will be shared soon about how to best prepare for the eclipse.
