Over the next two years, Indiana University will unify its email communication to a single domain, iu.edu. The One Mail project is a strategic initiative that will improve email security of students, faculty, and staff against cyberthreats and unite all campuses under a single email domain.

All IU constituents with email have a single inbox that is attached to your username@iu.edu account. If you currently have a campus-specific email address (e.g., username@indiana.edu, username@iupui.edu, etc.), your mail is currently forwarding to your @iu.edu inbox. Unifying email to a single domain simply means that you will only have one address, username@iu.edu, where you can send and receive email messages .

The primary method that bad actors use to gain access to IU systems is through phishing attempts. Indiana University has over 250,000 valid email addresses and receives over 500 million spam messages each year. Combined with additional security measures, reducing the number of email addresses to a single email domain will radically improve our cybersecurity.

Using a single email domain also simplifies our technical infrastructure and reduces maintenance costs. This project also seeks to enhance the IU brand by using it consistently across all IU campuses.

University Information Technology Services will provide tools and support to help you transition from the legacy campus-specific email domains, including indiana.edu, iupui.edu, iuk.edu, iupuc.edu, ius.edu, iun.edu, iusb.edu, iue.edu and iufw.edu.

The One Mail project will have no effect on your ability to access and use IU systems, nor will it be necessary for you to move any of your email.

UITS will provide detailed directions to ease the transition process and minimize disruptions. Those affected will be contacted directly with additional information on next steps.
