Funding to support innovative cancer research

November 12, 2024
The Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is requesting applications from trainees — graduate students, post doctorates, residents and clinical fellows on any IU campus — for pilot funding to support innovative research focused on cancer.
The primary purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide training on proposal writing, grant review process and fund management. Proposals may include cancer biology, early drug development including target identification, new model systems development, and all aspects of cancer prevention and control. Proposals that provide training in new technologies are strongly encouraged.
Funding of up to $10,000 will be allocated. Trainees do not need to be IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center members when applying but must have applied for trainee membership by the award funding date. They must also have a mentor who is an IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center member. Awardees are not eligible to apply for pilot funding in back-to-back cycles.
Interested applicants must submit a notification of intent to apply via email to Vicki Clements at vlclemen@iu.edu by Jan. 6 with the following information:
- Applicant name.
- Draft title of proposal.
- Name of mentor.
- One to two sentences describing the project.
A link to the application will be sent after notice of intent has been approved.
Final applications are due by Feb. 3. Proposals will be reviewed in March, and funding will start in April.
All questions should be directed to Hari Nakshatri at hnakshat@iu.edu or Claire Walczak at cwalczak@iu.edu.
