Applications and nominations are being accepted for the Indiana University School of Nursing dean.
Robin Newhouse, who had served as dean for nearly a decade, stepped down in August. Janet Carpenter, a Distinguished Professor and the Audrey Geisel Endowed Chair in Innovation at IU, was named interim dean.
The search for a new dean is gearing up, with applications and nominations being accepted on the university’s executive search website.
The IU School of Nursing dean oversees undergraduate, graduate and doctoral nursing programs in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Fort Wayne and a future fourth location. The position drives positive educational outcomes for approximately 2,000 students.
In addition to setting the strategic direction for the school, responsibilities include oversight of a $31 million budget, fundraising, promoting student success, and research and discovery. The dean will also benefit from a recent doubling of teaching space for experiential learning, which allows for a 50 percent increase in beginning nursing students.
Members of the search committee are:
- Chair Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch, dean of the School of Dentistry.
- Ashley Burelison, director of undergraduate advising for the School of Nursing.
- Greg Carter, assistant dean of research and associate professor in the Office of Research Support for the School of Nursing.
