IU campuses recognized for efforts to increase student voting
November 25, 2024
Four Indiana University campuses — Bloomington, Indianapolis, South Bend and Southeast — were honored for their efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and student voting by being named a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting.
The same four campuses earned this recognition in 2022.
Two IU students were also recognized as part of the 2024 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll, which recognizes student voting champions. IU’s honorees were Isabelle deCastro at IU Bloomington and Emily Veenstra at IU Indianapolis.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge strives to foster civic culture and institutionalize democratic engagement and programs at colleges and universities. Campuses that join the challenge are tasked with completing a set of action items. IU Bloomington, IU Indianapolis, IU South Bend and IU Southeast were among 471 universities and campuses recognized for meeting the criteria:
- Participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
- Share the 2022 National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement reports of campus voting data with ALL IN.
- Develop and submit a 2024 nonpartisan democratic engagement action plan with ALL IN by Oct. 1, 2024.
- Have a current signatory to ALL IN’s Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.
“This year we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge engages 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
