Coming soon: Employee health centers

By IU Human Resources

February 05, 2024

Last week, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer C. Todd Richardson announced that full-time faculty, staff and family members enrolled in an IU employee medical plan — the Anthem PPO HDHP and Anthem PPO $500 Deductible plans — will have access to the Marathon Health Network of employee health centers, beginning in March. This marks an important expansion of the health care options available to IU employees, offering an additional resource to receive convenient, affordable and high-quality health care.

Locations, services, costs

The Marathon Health Network consists of eight health centers across Indiana — a new center opening in Bloomington and seven established centers in the Indianapolis area — as well as additional locations in other states. These centers will offer a broad range of in-person health services, including preventive and acute care, management of chronic conditions, lab services, health coaching and mental/behavioral health counseling.

For those who prefer or require remote consultations, virtual visits with Marathon Health providers will also be available for members in network states. Preventive care and labs received through the centers will continue to be available at no cost, while most other visits will cost just $35.

Improved access to mental/behavioral health care

One of the core benefits of this new initiative is increased access to mental health care. All Marathon Health centers, including the new center in Bloomington, have behavioral health providers on site or available for virtual visits to ensure members can easily connect with mental health support when they need it. Members will also experience reduced wait times for appointments, with most centers offering same- or next-day appointments.

Flexible options

There is no requirement for employees to use Marathon Health; rather, it will be an additional resource to receive care. Marathon Health will be in-network for IU employee medical plans, meaning employees can use the health centers as their primary source of care, continue seeing providers in the community or use the centers as needed for individual services.

Watch for more information

In the weeks ahead, IU Human Resources and Marathon Health will provide further details, including information on health center locations, operating hours, access to services and instructions for using the online patient portal to schedule appointments.

Eligible employees are encouraged to stay informed by checking their IU email and IU Today for updates. Additional resources and frequently asked questions will also be available on the IU Benefits website.
