Katherine Yeske Taylor will discuss her book “She’s a Badass, Women in Rock Shaping Feminism” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Campus Center Theater.

Taylor interviews 20 significant women in rock in the book, including Ann Wilson of Heart, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, Gina Schock of the Go-Go’s, Suzanne Vega and Fefe Dobson. Their experiences reveal the varied and unique challenges they have faced, how they overcame them and what they still think needs to be done to continue making progress for gender equity.

Taylor began her career as a rock critic in Atlanta in the 1990s, interviewing Georgia musical royalty such as the Indigo Girls, R.E.M. and the Black Crowes while still a teenager. Since then, she has conducted several hundred interviews and contributes regularly to music publications including Billboard, Spin and American Songwriter.

Following her presentation, Taylor will be joined by an IUPUI faculty panel from communication studies, music arts and technology, and women’s, gender and sexuality studies. A book signing will follow the event.
